Whether you’re a resident or a visitor seeking an authentic Roman experience, these cafes offer a chance to highlight your stay and create lasting memories. Antico Caffè Greco Seek coffee spots in Rome outside the main tourist areas. Avoid famous cafes, including some on the list we recommend. Although note that a caffè is not going to break the bank even at the most famous coffee houses, if you have it standing at the bar.

Note that we recommend these places for coffee, not necessarily for meals. The cafes located in popular areas, such as Piazza Navona and Piazza del Popolo, are going to charge more for the same quality food you can find further away for lower prices. Just bear in mind you will pay more for central and scenic locations. Mondicaffè is located in the eastern part of Rome, further away from the center of Rome than the other locations on our list. However, we think it’s worth the extra effort if you are traveling through that part of the city as they are known for serving one of the best cups of coffee in Rome. Have you had coffee in Rome? If so, tell us about your experience and the name of your favorite cafe (if you remember). We’re always looking for recommendations for our next visit to Rome!Feel at home on big couches or at long, study tables. You don’t have to buy a drink or eat anything to stay here, but the staff will surely love it if you have at least an espresso.

A sophisticated take on the traditional cat cafe, this place offers up a fun, clean experience with delicious food and friendly cats walking around. As well as the usual hot coffee beverages, they also offer a cold cappuccino option that is perfect for hot days. They also serve sandwiches and pastries. Although best known for their cappuccinos, their pastrami sandwiches are also very popular and another reason many locals stop here. The property dates from the 19th century (although has been somewhat updated since then!), and you can enjoy a coffee in their open-air garden (Le Jardin de Russie) or in their bar lounge (Stravinskij Bar).

Indeed a drink here is not cheap, no surprise given Antico’s location and popularity, and I wince every time I hand over €7 for a single espresso. But it was a great coffee, to be expected from the imported Ethiopian arabica blend I chose. I was met with the sweet and bitter aroma of caramelised pecans and was left with a surprisingly silky cocoa finish on my tongue. The most famous café in Rome is also the second oldest café in Italy, preceded only by Caffé Florian in Florence. Regarding the best cappuccino in Rome, you can have it in this small café featuring a handful of outdoor and indoor tables.

Roscioli Caffè

When it comes to coffee beans, Castroni coffee shops in Rome are a guarantee, both in terms of quality and variety of choices.

This hipster cafè in Rome is located in the heart of the Monti neighborhood, which is probably the local’s top choice to spend a pleasant evening in the historical center. On this visit, I opted for a caffe latte freddo (iced coffee) accompanied by a bar of Amadei – Cioccolato Acero 95. This Tuscan chocolate is a favorite of mine because, while I usually prefer a more palatable 60-70% dark, this 95% is imbued with maple sugar which adds a dry sweetness and an autumnal aftertaste. There are more than 14 Castroni branches in the city. It also sells fine olive oils, wines, and typical sweets. caffè americano: express shot with hot water added afterwards, the most similar to a traditionally brewed drip coffee
