To be honest, I didn’t like Eliza at all, she was like a bulldozer stuck in high gear with a five-year-old driving it, she didn’t care about the wreckage that she would wreck into other peoples lives. Eliza is turning 18 and wants to reconnect with her father which takes Lara and Eliza on a surprising journey of self discovery.

There was an instant attraction between the pair, and after a very intimate night, they parted company planning to meet that evening.Their journey to the truth will take them on a road trip across England, and eventually to New York, where it all began. Ultimately Eliza has that childhood dream of a family unit comprising of the three of them and tries in Her unsubtle way to matchmaker! In this book we meet Eliza, she is an 18 year old girl who is about to finish her school life and trying to find out exactly who she is and where she fits in, in her life. the story is based on love and second chances but there is also an element of how we can be lead down a completely different path that we were expecting to go down. I liked the story because it brought out such strong emotions in me, even though they may not have been the ones I was supposed to feel.

Some of the best parts of the book of the dynamics between mother and daughter which are acutely observed as they navigate the big secret that lies between them. She was always unhappy, always blamed other people and she herself was not the most loyal, adorable woman she thought she is. Although this is a romance novel as with all Lucy Diamond’s books they’re not fluffy, they’re grounded in reality which gives the book a genuine air of authenticity. There are missed chances of happiness, which give the story a “sliding doors” element, and twists which cause the reader to doubt the outcome you are expecting and hoping for. Gently humorous and largely predictable escapism with my main complaint being how needlessly drawn out the entire second half felt.Eliza wants answers and when Lara finally discloses what happened she is determined to track her real father down and introduce herself. This was my first read of one of her books and I certainly understand why her style is so popular as this was such an easy book to read with a definite heart-warming and feel-good vibe. Lara doesn’t want her child to grow up without a father as she did, so she gets together with Steve, letting him believe the child is his. A very enjoyable story about missed chances, along with a few hurt feelings which stopped some matters being resolved a lot earlier.
