About this deal

YouView combines live TV from Freeview, with on-demand content over the Internet. You can get a YouView box on the high street, or from Internet providers BT and TalkTalk After an alternative to the Sky Q box above? Your best bet is Virgin Media’s Virgin TV 360 box because it offers many of the same premium channels and recording capabilities. The key thing to note is that if you want the Virgin Media TV service, you need to have its broadband too. Once you do, you’re getting a competitive Sky rival that delivers a huge selection of premium channels (including Sky Showcase, MTV and Comedy Central), the ability to record six programmes simultaneously while watching a seventh, and the same 1TB of storage that the standard Sky box includes. The HB-1100S is yet another Freesat HDTV box from Humax but this time it is aimed to satisfy the needs of users who are looking for a budget-friendly model. We have a range of products to suit every room in your home, so you can enjoy brilliant TV wherever you are. So you can have one of our recording boxes in your main room and a discreet, TV Box in a bedroom. Win: Supporting High Definition broadcasting, this receiver delivers high-quality visuals for an enhanced viewing experience.

While the selection of Freesat boxes out there isn’t very big – there are still distinct differences between the ones that are available – both in features and cost. Fear not if your home is dishless - getting a dish capable of receiving Freesat is simple. You can buy your own dish from any number of retailers. Some will even come along and install it for you too! Win/Loss: There is insufficient information on the user interface or the remote control. Therefore, potential users might find it challenging to assess the product's ease of use. Freesat started as a joint venture between the BBC and ITV, and has been around since 2008. It offers more than 200 free-to-air TV channels and radio stations, all transmitted via digital satellite.

Some boxes support Freesat’s “Freetime” catch-up service, which lets you use the EPG to watch programmes that aired during the last 7 days (but only on specific channels). Additional Apps Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie.

Win: The HB-1100S supports popular on-demand services like BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub, adding to its flexibility and range of content. If you’re going to invest in a Freesat set-top box, then you may as well get one that has all the bells and whistles going. The Recordable 4K TV Box gives you the full Freesat viewing experience while also allowing you to record your favourite shows and watch a wide selection of On Demand content. If you accidentally select the SD iteration of an HD channel, the box prompts you to jump over to the HD alternative. It’s always surprising that set-top boxes and digital TV sets don’t come with wireless built-in as standard. If you’re looking to use wi-fi for your TV or box, there is an option though: The Netgear Universal Wi-fi adapter. Freeview offers around 70 standard definition (SD) channels, 15 high definition (HD) channels and more than 30 radio channels (depending on your location). Already have an aerial? This is the option we’d recommend.

Setting this box up is a breeze once you connect it to your satellite dish, and the Freesat EPG is a joy to use. It also offers a 7-day catch-up service – you select programmes that aired during that time, via the EPG, and you get to magically watch them – it’s like your very own PVR in the cloud (but only for 7 days, and only on 26 channels at this time.)

Freeview:Operated by Everyone TV (formerly Digital UK), a joint venture of the BBC, ITV Channel 4 and Channel 5, Freeview provides access to 100+ free, over-the-air channels and radio stations. To get it, you need an aerial – either one on your roof, or a cheap indoor aerial – and a Freeview tuner – either one built-into your TV, or a set-top box one which also offers recording capabilities. Our home wifi doesn't appear on the list when the box searches for wireless networks and when I put it in manually, it won't connect. You do get what you pay for, but if your budget is limited then this model is a sound choice. It delivers the full Freesat service and all from a neat and super-compact box. Avoid the 500GB version – you will run short of recording space in no time – and go straight to at least the 1TB version, or the 2TB model if you can afford it. If you like to keep your favourite programmes stored for watching later, you will be glad of the extra capacity. The On Demand button on your remote will take you straight to the On Demand menu where there are hundreds of hours of telly that can be watched at any time.

Because of the better reception and wider bandwidth, the Freesat service can offer more channels than Freeview – some of which are in HD. Those channels come with an easy to use Electronic Programme Guide (EPG),which shows you the TV schedule for up to 8 days in advance. In December 2009, Freesat launched its first Internet-based service – Owners of Freesat HD boxes could connect their boxes to the Internet and watch content from the BBC iPlayer on their TV. Win: This receiver supports Freesat's Freetime service, granting access to a range of on-demand services like BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, and more.If you are tired of watching satellite television in poor quality or just want to freshen up your TV system this model from Humax might be right up your alley. customers satisfied with Freesat as their TV provider: Based on an online YouGov Plc survey, total sample size was 8341 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 28th March 2022 - 15th February 2023. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all UK adults (aged 18+). While the Freesat environment is a walled-garden, the set top box does allow you to take a peek at other (Euro-centric) channels, using a non-Freesat mode. You’ll lose the trapping of the Freesat wrapper though, which is a big unsettling, still it’s interesting to nose around.
