Chlorine tabletsare a popularway to sanitise your hot tub and keep it clean from bacteria. Over the past few years this choice of sanitiser has become increasingly popular as some inflatable hot tubmanufacturers such as Lay-Z-Spa have opted to recommend this to customers so as inflatable hot tubs have become popular, chlorine tablets have increased in popularity too. On the flip sidemany acrylic hot tub manufacturers do not recommend chlorine tablets for reasons thatwe will outline below. Please ensure that you follow your manufacturers recommendations to prevent damage to your hot tub. In this guide we will outline the good and bad things about tablets, how to use them and answer some common FAQs. Why Are Chlorine Tablets Good? Clearwater pH Plus , also known as ‘pH increaser’ is the best way to increase pH levels that have dropped below the recommended level. To avoid skin discomforts and enable the chlorine in your spa to work effectively, it’s vital that acidity is monitored and controlled. The recommended pH balance of spa water is between 7.2 and 7.6. Mini multifunctional tablets make chlorine levels slightly more difficult to measure since the chlorine is released slowly over time. A little bit of trial and error might be needed at first to find the sweet spot on your chemical floater or ChemConnet that maintains the perfect level of chlorine. However, once you have found the level that works for you it is relatively easy to keep chlorine levels consistent.

Outdoor storage areas for your hot tub chemicals should be situated away from anything flammable. Keep any petrol-powered equipment, like your lawnmower, in a different location. The storage area should also be away from sources of heat, like an outdoor fire pit or BBQ. There are two mainsizes of chlorine tablet on the market. A 200g large chlorine tablet (3 inch diamater) and a 20g small chlorine tablet (1 inch diameter). The large 200g tablets are mainly designed for swimming pools whilst the 20g tablets are for hot tubs and small splasher pools.Due to the water capacity, we do not reccomend using large 200gswimming pool tablets in a hot tub as they will lead to high levels of chlorine which could cause damage to components. Use 20g chlorine tablets only in hot tubs. How Long do Chlorine Tablets Last in a Hot Tub? This TA Increaser helps raise Total Alkalinity levels, which in turn will help control pH levels and chlorine. This is a very effective way of preventing your spa water from looking dull and cloudy, due to the build-up of dead algae and debris that is too small to be trapped by your filter. Even if you have treated your spa for algae using Clearwater Algaecide, it is recommended that you use the Water Clarifier to remove any residual debris. Start with the Total Alkalinity and aim for a reading of 80‑120 ppm. If it's low, add an alkalinity increaser, if it is high use a pH reducer. Because pH measures how acidic or alkaline your water is, it is important to make sure your hot tub ph Levels are always balanced between 7.2 and 7.6 to avoid impacting your Lay-Z-Spa and your spa experience. CommercialSwimmingPoolChemicals Balancers Disinfectants and Sanitisers Flocculants and Clarifiers Leisure Industry Cleaners When you’re ready to begin mixing your chemicals, you should handle them with chemical resistant gloves. The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/ the substance/ the preparation. It is also advised to wear tightly sealed goggles and appropriate protective clothing such as long sleeves, trousers, and closed-toed shoes that fully protect your feet from spills. You should also wash your hands after handling chemicals.

pH measures how acidic or alkaline your water is and the ideal range for hot tubs is between 7.2 and 7.6. Balanced pH is necessary for other chemicals to work properly and imbalanced pH levels can impact your hot tub components and cause skin irritation. Chlorine is absolutely essential for maintaining a healthy and enjoyable spa. Most Lay-Z-Spa owners will be well aware of the two recommended ways to add chlorine to your hot tub water: Clearwater multifunction tablets and Clearwater chlorine granules. But which will work better for you? Let’s find out! Which Is Better For Maintaining Chlorine Levels?Blue Horizons Multi-Functional Stabilised Chlorine Tablets are an enhanced version of regular Chlorine Tablets as they are stabilised to minimise chlorine loss to sunlight and also contain a C larifier and A lgaecide for sparkling clear water. These tablets are a popular Chlorine Sanitiser for outdoor swimming pools and spas.

In a floating dispenser, fill the floating dispenser with tablets and adjust the aperture mechanism at the bottom of the dispenser to obtain the 1 - 3 mg/l (ppm) desired free chlorine range. Alternatively keep the dispenser aperture constant and vary the tablets inside to achieve 1-3 mg/l (ppm). The dispenser should be removed from the pool while swimmers are bathing. Do not add water to spilled materials. Do not use floor sweeping compounds to clean up spills. Sweep and scoop spilled material into clean, dedicated equipment.

Chemicals & What They Do

Every attempt should be made to avoid mixing spilled material with other chemicals or debris when cleaning up. Do not attempt to reseal any contaminated drums. Do not transport wet or damp material.

Around 60% of UK households are in hard or very hard water areas. To avoid scale build-up (which can impact water quality and pump components) use a weekly dose of ClearWater Scale & Stain Controller. Dissolve the quantity of Chlorine Granules in a jug of warm water and pour into your hot tub. Activate the AirJets for a few minutes to circulate the chemicals evenly throughout the water. To ensure safe use of your pool, maintain a free chlorine level of between 1-3ppm and a pH level between 7.2 and 7.6. Not balancing the Total Alkalinity levels in your hot tub can cause a number of issues that can impact your spa experience.
