When I read your first line describing Beloved, I immediately thought of a favorite of mine I found last year, HM by Hanae Mori. The orris, which could overpower me in Reflection, is toned down significantly here, if even present at all. One Fragrantica reviewer remarked about Beloved Man that it was "Dior Sauvage made with niche materials. Cedar is more pronounced than vetiver (at least initially) although vetiver comes along after some time and the scent dries down congenially.I haven't spent enough time with it for a breakdown of the notes but you need to try this if you love Ciel or Lyric.

It skew quite citrus-woody, and I don’t think the creaminess that I got (and which is the part you’d like) is common. For those who don't exactly know what "this style" is, I'm referring to a rich and redolent fougère accord with oriental elements stapled on to move it away from being green or soapy towards a woody, powdery, musky direction favored by more-conservative (also read: older) men. Lacking in distinctive character, and that is one thing I look for in, nay, DEMAND from an Amouage fragrance. For me, soap would be worse than even the “baby powder” or other versions that people experienced, though Persolaise’s burnt plastic thing sounds almost as unappealing. take much for me to get excited about a new Amouage release but Lucas (Chemist in the Bottle) did his part and so did Sheila (The Alembicated Genie).In absolute awe of how simplicity in their scents shines through the guile and craft of their complicated creations. There are several statements to the effect of, “Oh man this is somehow what Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million tries to be. Unfortunately what turns me off to it slightly is the "stinky fruit" or "stale fruit" effect that I receive from it. Also, I'm obliged to admit that the first moments (up to 15 minutes) does have a medicinal vibe which might be not for everyone's liking.

Performance is decent, better than some of the lighter Amouages (but scents that I nonetheless love, like Ciel and Lyric) but certainly not on the Interlude level. It’s all rather light in feel, and evokes very yellowed, Italianate images, as if Beloved were made for a warm summer’s night in Capri.I found this accord in JPG's Le Male too surprisingly which also smells like urinal cake detergent to me, and people seem to love Le Male too and I'm alone in disliking). If Beloved were issued by Maison Francis Kurkdjian as a counterbalance to his tendency to create very commercial, safe, often fresh and clean scents (with the fantastic, rich, opulent Absolue Pour Le Soir as being the lone exception to the rule), then I would undoubtedly praise Beloved. It’s elegant, sophisticated and sexy – a smell that is meant to be noticed only by your beloved woman. Beloved Man has that little bit of "something" which pegs it as a Middle East adaptation of a Western style, so it is still a shade more "exotic" to the domesticated nose than all the rest, but is still a formidable if late entry into this style.
