Elemental Powers: Elementia, or the magic that gives the world life, comes in four forms: fire, air, water, and earth. Passive-Aggressive Kombat: All the royals of Mytica are well-versed in using politeness, false sincerity, doublespeak, and Exact Words as daggers. Through most of this book he is blinded by his vengeance for his older brother, but towards the end of the book he starts to see the bigger picture. Back from the Dead: A resurrection potion, drunk or administered in advance, is used to save the lives of Amara and Ashur, separately—Amara when she was a baby, Ashur when he's killed in the third book.

Sixteen years later, Princess Cleiona Bellos of Auranos and her friends take a pleasure cruise to the impoverished nation of Paelsia to purchase wine, the country’s most notable export. Team up’ being symbolic, since Limeros does all the heavy lifting and, at the end of the day, immediately turns on Paelsia too.

I’m also intrigued by the lost magic of the land and the roles the Watchers have to play in future installments. Limeros, the Northern Kingdom -Very cold land, their main export is fishing, but they have a very good military. Earn Your Happy Ending: Everyone goes through a lot of hell, and not all of them make it out, but the ending is ultimately uplifting. I come away from this story with strong feelings for each character, whether it be sympathy, hatred, loyalty, or empathy.

Sorceress: Lucia, adopted at birth into a royal family, discovers the truth about her past – and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield. There are quite a few characters to keep track of — I found myself having to use a character list online just to remember who is who and where they’re from. When Gaius announces that a road is to be built into the Forbidden Mountains, formally linking all of Mytica together, he sets off a chain of cataclysmic events that will forever change the face of this land. Right when you start this book you’ll receive a character list from each kingdom, and it will probably seem super overwhelming, but the book really only revolves around the four, while the rest are just side characters.

I understand your reservations, I am the literal worst at finishing series if I have to wait for a year between books haha. Artifact of Doom: The Kindred grant whomever touches them mastery over the corresponding elementia, but also are said to corrupt that person without the protection of Eva’s ring. Cleo, Jonas, Lucia and Magnus are caught in a dizzying world of treacherous betrayals, shocking murders, secret alliances, and even unforeseen love.Lucia finds herself briefly threatened by this, but by a crowd in Paelsia, when they recognize her as the sorceress who just recently went on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge across their land. I’m especially to see how the interactions between Cleo-Jonas and Cleo-Magnus will evolve, as they seem bitter enemies at the moment, but I can see those relationships doing a 180 quickly and believably.

I really liked this, because that’s my main critique with A Game of Thrones, I always get really sad when I’ve read twenty-something chapters and I still haven’t seen my favorite characters. As the title suggests, Falling Kingdoms is the first book in a series which tells of multiple kingdoms at various stages of destruction and, as the synopsis suggests, each kingdom is introduced and focalised through characters from those kingdoms – princess, rebel, and sorceress alike. Magnus has feelings for Lucia, who has requited feelings for Alexius, then later both get tossed into the Cleo-Jonas love mess, as Magnus develops feelings for Cleo and Lucia is implied to develop feelings for Jonas. Sabina hits Magnus in the face and puts a dagger to his throat to provoke Lucia into using her magic.Mêlée à Trois: The seemingly-straightforward rebellion against King Gaius becomes more complicated once the Kraeshian Empire and the Kindred get involved. Follow legendary bad boy Magnus and the enigmatic Maddox as their worlds collide in this high-stakes adventure. Once the Watchers could visit the mortal world in their immortal forms, but since the disappearance of the Kindred, they are bound to the Sanctuary, only able to travel to the mortal world through the dreams of mortals or in hawk form. It’s a short book – 400 pages – so no where near enough time is spent on the characters which makes them one dimensional. There is so much insta-love: two characters who’ve shared a handful of scenes and have never conducted a full conversation are suddenly in love?
