Because the real Clair Cline died years ago and rarely ever told this story in public, there were a lot of gaps left for the filmmakers to fill in on their own. In 1995, he donated it to Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York City, where it was played by Glenn Dicterow of the New York Philharmonic during a ceremony aboard the aircraft carrier.

S. B-24 bomber pilot Clair Cline is shot down and captured in northern Germany, one war ends and another begins -- to keep hope alive. Music plays a crucial role in the plot of this movie, so it certainly helps to have such an accomplished composer as Isham to back it up. As this pressure mounted, musical instrument makers faced a difficult choice between switching to war production, altering their designs, or closing entirely. There wasn't a bad actor in the whole production but Ethan Kai as the taciturn, unhappy Frank stood out for me.The entire ensemble of Instrument of War is solid throughout, though one must give the strongest kudos to Jack Ashton for a performance that captures both the harrowing nature of his surroundings and the seemingly undefeatable human spirit that Cline must've possessed.

The British virtuoso Stephen Isserlis has recorded pieces by Fauré, Debussy and Webern on a trench cello ( The Cello in Wartime, Stephen Isserlis). I just wish Lindsey Stirling play that Violin once, the same song Clair composed, it would be the best moment.A part of Ball State Unversity's award winning College of Communication, Information, and Media, Byte is a student-run, multimedia coalition operating out of Ball State University's Unified Media Lab. The Fallen are spying on everyone, the new Principal is an angel and there’s an enchanting new exchange student with Faerie blood. During World War One, versions were produced behind the lines, usually made simply of plywood, although old steel oil containers were also used. Good acting and a true story, which at times makes you think about WW2 and what these brave men went through. Meanwhile Frank, the most reserved of the prisoners, ends up delivering some of the most powerful lines of the movie when he discusses meeting the family of someone he killed, challenging the belief that anyone is the good guy when it comes to war.

It is hard to imagine how soldiers could have survived life in the trenches, when each day might very well be the last. Instrument of War is a period piece based on the true story of Clair Cline, a US Army Air Forces pilot shot down over occupied Holland during World War II and held at the German Stalag Luft 1 POW camp, and “The Prison Camp Violin” he made from materials found in the camp and by trading Red Cross cigarettes for a bow.The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. You don’t need diffusion to bring back that natural film look, it’s built into Cooke lenses out of the box. Filmed in cooperation with Cline's family, the story even includes excerpts from the diary of Cline's wife that she kept throughout his time in captivity. When Cline (Jack Ashton) is incarcerated with other Allied troops he begins an audacious attempt to build a violin from scratch.
