For anyone who is thinking of gifting a graphic novel for a struggling pre-teen, this might be the perfect fit. Frances Ives' beautiful illustrations bring to life this charming story that features a rhyming refrain to enchant both children and parents alike. The quirky illustrations are full of charming details and the unlikely hero of the tale has immense appeal for children aged 3 and over.

Before bringing in the construction crew, the Heffleys attempt to do minor maintenance and repairs themselves—during which Greg fails at the work in various slapstick scenes. In 1990 she started illustrating full-time for various popular women’s magazines and mother and baby publications.

I have been an editor for Wizarding Life Networks (the people who brought you Wizarding Life, Panem October, and MyHogwarts now HogwartsIsHere).I was particularly impressed with how much depth Making Friends gave to Madison and the existential crisis she experiences when she eventually discovers that she was created by Dany’s magic sketchbook. Cara pronounces her “cool” for rescuing her father, turned into a squirrel in the hinn’s panic, and Nick is suspended permanently. She moans and complains a lot about how unfortunate she is and how no one likes her, but never once do we even see her trying to reach out to other kids, and more than once, other kids reach out to her in clearly friendly ways. Goes through how to connect and get closer, toxicity, self-doubt, jealousy and envy, and fear of rejection.

Since she doesn't currently have any friends, she draws a girl and names her Madison who is cool and best friends with Danielle.Aru Shah and the Song of Death (which I listened to not long before this book) wrung a few chuckles from me, but this… this was cackling. This book covers the entire process from breaking the ice, making small talk, connecting with people, dealing with rejection, etc.

From the start I found the movement of this book from panel to panel, page to page, to be frenetic, disjointed, distracting, and far from engaging. However, Dany soon learns that even if you tailor-make your own BFF, how you treat them still matters. Dany, now guilt-ridden with the responsibility of having accidentally created another human, is again alone and without a best friend. This powerful book introduces children to the important topic of racism and anti-racism through accessible language and relatable examples.

He comes alive and becomes a talking, flying head (no, not exactly nearly headless Nick from Harry Potter, but close) who is willing to act on her behalf. This story is great for younger kids to acknowledge how all your actions have a consequence; On the other hand, older kids/teens will love that it explores the be-careful-what-you-wish-for trope in a fresh way. You’re not looking for a cover-it-all for social life but instead to improve your social interaction.
