That being said, I think the ending was well done and left off with a satisfying conclusion to this 3 book, 1 novella adventure. You will notice a lack of backgrounds in several panels, but Mazzara fills the panels so well with figures in motion that the lack of backgrounds doesn’t take away from the overall look of the issue.

I felt that a “stoic” type of choice for the different “how do you feel” choices would work well … perhaps they were there, but I did not realize that.But one thing that comes out in this is part of the reason for the Trisani holocaust, the others around them wanted to claim their technological advancements. She accepts what she believes is an easy retrieval assignment, only to have the contract changed to an execution one. While I loved the book as Jane is one of my favorite characters in this series I felt like this read more like a short story instead of a vital part of the series. I personally would have put the “childhood” segments as a flashback in future chapters and start with in the middle of the action from the get go. We get to learn Jayne's background, what she wanted to be before she was forced into her life, her life secret (she's a Winged Batur 😲) and what makes her tick. Guy meets girl, one of which is running from the law and/or trying not to be killed and/or everyone hates them and has made their life hell.
