Written by CasualFarmer which I think is a pseudonym, it is apparently very well regarded on webnovel sites that cater to its genre.

Worldbuilding: The Past of the Soaring Heaven Why the Crimon Phoenix Empire has laws against enslaving Imperial Subjects Tianlan's thoughts about people+ Bonus Chunky's thoughts. His tanned skin and freckles had spoken of a lifetime of heavy labour, without the higher realms to prevent them.I shook myself out of my introspection and tuned to the pleased clucking sounds coming from my "kitchen. While masquerading as a peaceful farming story, it is still very much a power fantasy -- only an insincere one.

It is a casual cultivation story where the main character, Jin, rejects his society's vision of what it means to be a cultivator and go live a quiet life on a farm with his animals. Apart from a rocky first chapter that seems to rush through the initial scenes (which may be by design), the book really started to pull me in. Watching Jin Rou build a farm, slowly come to the realisation that various members of his farm were Cultivators (he got the message when they presented him with the scattered swords of the bandits that were going to attack him) and slowly woo his wife, while just ambling about unaware that he was actually pretty powerful and solving problems he wasn’t even aware of was fun but it was also a plot that was done. I imagine my past self from when I first started to use this platform wouldn't have knocked down at least one star, if not more. All the characters especially the farm spirit animals are interesting characters that develop as the story progresses with you developing feelings for them.It starts off with the titular chicken then expands to multiple POV farm critters that are just the best. Recent threadmarks Jim and Rou - A Branch from a Twisted Tree (or Jin as a Ring Grampa AU Omake) New The Aftermath: Zang Sheng New Jin's Isekai adventure: One Piece New Q=V/Tea Omake FSNX BOC part 2 Omake: (F/SN x BoC) Dark Timeline Meiling prompt for meetin the Fa Ram crew.

It's noted early on that Azure Hills, the province he's settled in, is rather sparse in Qi, to the point that high level cultivators consider the area beneath their notice, so it's ambiguous whether Jin really is getting stupid strong by being in tune with nature or something, or if his place of birth is so dense in Qi that he's only strong compared to what the province has to offer, while still being a low level schmuck by the standards of the sect he just left. Thank you for your hard work thus far and this "review" is just me ranting a bit because its just so damned a rare and pleasant suprise to actually be suprised I feel, especially from a genre thats been at my "avoid 9 times out of 10" regardless of any positivity surrounding the work. The "pacifists are the best fighters" trope is one I never liked, and sadly it's part of this story too.

Sure, I could convert them into pills, but I was extremely suspect about all the pills these people choked back. The story contains a lot of comedy, but beyond that there's a plot, fights, progression and foreshadowed threats and other events in the horizon for the second book.

In their first match there’s this wonderful passage: ‘In one exchange, a leaf fell between them, floating between slashing claws and spinning swords. The series is still running strong, with multiple updates weekly, currently in "book 3," and I made the mistake of checking the author's Patreon and questioning my life over how much he gets monthly from supporters right now. It picks up every thread, every theme, every scrap of brilliance from the first book and just starts sprinting with them.
