Helmed by Angus MacLane ( Finding Dory), Lightyear is a whimsical, overstuffed sci-fi adventure. It recalls all the classic movies you’d expect — 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, and Star Trek — but it possesses none of the originality, wit, or wellspring of emotion you’d expect from a Pixar movie. One would hesitate to call this spinoff terrible. Instead, the film finds an unsettling comfort in being aggressively average. A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas • Buzz's Star Command • Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin • Little Green Men Store Command Hawthorne’s granddaughter, Izzy (Keke Palmer) is now grown-up, and she, along with the clumsy and frightened Mo (Taika Waititi) and the elderly but spunky ex-con Darby (Dale Soules) are planning to infiltrate Zerg’s ship. The difficulty in watching arises from caring for the new cast. I think the biggest thing is to forget the trailer. Go in with an open-mind and make of it what you will. The kids in the theatre seemed to have loved. Hawthorne is a compelling character, and a refreshing example of proper representation. Walt Disney Studios

The newest Pixar offering isn’t a conventional prequel. In 1995, Toy Story’s Andy watched a movie that captured his imagination and prompted him to buy a Buzz Lightyear action figure. Lightyear is the movie he watched. It’s also the movie Disney hopes your kids will see, ultimately making them buy their own Buzz Lightyear toys. The voice acting was good. Chris Evans sounded like Buzz and brought the character to life. The surrounding characters were just as enjoyable. Definitely some funny moments amongst them. I did get a few laughs out, but it felt forced sometimes to be able to enjoy the film. Fans will want to collect the whole fleet of Lightyear Hyperspeed Series vehicles and pilots for a dramatic display. Each vehicle and figure combination sold separately, subject to availability. Buzz Lightyear, on the other hand, would experience 8.9 g's. That’s huge, but it's survivable. Some fighter pilots can have maneuvers that pull up to 9 or 10 g's. (Plus, it's Buzz Lightyear, so he's probably tougher than your average fighter pilot.) Find spaceships from Buzz Lightyear's missions, as well as vehicles of the Space Ranger's foes. Each vehicle comes with a corresponding figure to pilot it to recreating scenes or creating new storylines.Buzz Lightyear • Mira Nova • Booster Munchapper • XR • Commander Nebula • LGMs • Ty Parsec • Emperor Zurg • Grubs • Brain Pods • Hornets • Warp Darkmatter • Gravitina • NOS-4-A2 • Wirewolf • XL • Varg • Torque • King Nova • Dr. Ozma Furbanna • Sally • Spyro Lepton • Bonnie Lepton • Evil Buzz Lightyear • Shiv Katall

The nostalgia was there for ten minutes and then it went away as the story trails away into something that just didn't sit right. While we never got firm info about Buzz's origins in the "Toy Story" films. This isn't what I expected for his story. I expected this to be an emotional journey, but there were maybe three moments where a tear was shed. The rest was just "empty" space. Chris Evans gives it his all, but Buzz without Woody as a foil doesn’t quite work. Walt Disney Studios Relive the excitement of space exploration, conflict and teamwork in Disney and Pixar's Lightyear, with these authentically detailed vehicles and figures representing key elements from the Buzz Lightyear origin story. But now for the most important question: Why would the animators of Lightyear choose to create such an unrealistic launch? I mean, there are plenty of real-life launches that could be used as a basis for a cool animation, so it's not like they don't know what one should look like. I'll answer this question with another animation. Buzz and Hawthorne need to recreate their ship’s warp drive if they and the other humans, now awakened from stasis, hope to leave. They decide to test their prototype cores by flying Buzz and his starfighter around a nearby sun. It’s a simple experiment with a catch: Every trip zaps Buzz four years into the future while everyone else on the planet ages normally. Hawthorne soon grows old and has grandchildren while the still young Buzz, ashamed of his failure, repeatedly tries to achieve warp speed.

I know it's just a movie, and not even a live-action one—but the trailer for Lightyear compels me to analyze it. This is an animated film about Buzz Lightyear. No, not the toy from Toy Story. This is about the real Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on. (OK, I don't even know what's real anymore.)
