I said the book didn't impact me in the same way as Forbidden did, and I guess that's because Forbidden devastated me but this one...right from the start, I knew better to hope for happy--it was waiting for the bad to happen followed by watching the aftermath of it and it left me emotionally drained and got under my skin in its own unique way. I just think that you are such an amazing author and you have this startling ability to change points of view .. if anybody was going to write a powerful story about culture clash or identity, i know that you would do it the best ! Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma is a deconstruction and reconstruction of Brother–Sister Incest. Social anxiety and Promotion to Parent are also big topics. I hope you found a book that caught your interest. Let me know in the comments what you think of these books if you have already read them. I’d love to hear your opinions on them! Which, as I have experienced with Forbidden, is very much true for this one. The many ways she describes sunlight filtering through a window, Matheo performing a dive, the cacophony of the world going on while Matheo watches growing more insane… beautiful. But I find her busting out one too many frou-frou phrases in too close succession, sometimes to the point of redundancy, without reprieve of dialogue. I found myself reading with interest then slowly drifting away midway through.

I applaud that the author used such dark themes, dysfunctional family, incest, alcoholism, depression, suicide and so forth. I may read this book in the near future, because I like the way the author didn’t shy away from anything. I know people find some of the extreme elements disturbing, but we are dealing with extremes here. Suicide is going to be disturbing, and so is incest to some people. And If you Had the patience to read all of this, I thank you with all my Heart, It means the world to me. What we can learn from this book, in my opinion is to stop and ask for the whole story before we jump to conclusions. About the ending. Contains spoilers. I'm not sure if you find this relevant as i understand your stories are often based on deep, emotional situations and even if you were to write in a ... let us say ... japanese character - it would not make that much, if any, difference to the actual story line.

So one more time, if you’re not for the dark and depraved type of story with a toxic high school relationship that was built on a foundation of abuse, then you might not want to read this. But if you’re one of the few who’s curious, I’d say try it out and worst comes to worst, you dnf it.

Troubled, but Cute: Played with with Lochan. As is traditional for the trope he's antisocial, with a difficult home life, and beautiful, with plenty of girls who like him. But he's also got crippling social anxiety, and is a far cry from a classic Troubled, but Cute bad boy or rebel. Just wow, wow, wow! I want too keep writing about how it has affected my views on how hard life is and how fantastic this book is, but all I can say is read it! I don't think you will regret it.
