Description

When one player gets down to two or fewer trains left at the end of their turn, each player, including that player, gets one final turn. The game then ends and it is time to see who has won! The biggest change includes the addition of the Technology Cards. Players start the game without any technology, and without it, they can only claim 1 and 2 space routes in England. You just need to be aware that if cities are connected by a double route, you cannot claim both routes! If you are playing with only two or three players, the double routes don’t count. Once one of the routes of any colour has been claimed then the other route cannot be used. Exception: The Southampton - New York route is a special route that can be claimed at any time and without any Technology.

Players should, in turn, reveal their destination cards and add or subtract the points indicated according to whether or not that route was made. Then it is time to see who has made the longest continuous path, which is worth an additional 10 points. The ability for players always having access to their last claimed route which can be used each turn after it has been completed until another route is claimed instead (known as Train Stations). This allows you never to lose your trains even if they reach their destination meaning additional points at the game’s end!

This makes an excellent choice if you’re looking for something that everyone can enjoy without having different playgroups end up fighting over rules which can sometimes take place when trying other titles out there on the market. In addition, since gameplay only takes around 30 minutes max per round this version also requires far less time investment than full-fledged versions do allow players more freedom about how they spend their free time on any given day! Components Dale Y: It’s hard to say which of the two maps in this expansion that I like more – but I think I’m leaning towards this one. I love the slow but steady buildup through the tech-tree, as well as the added strategy that you can employ – both by using your own technologies as well as realizing what technologies your opponents have (and don’t have). This restriction of route length in the early game adds a new level of play and forces players to change up their tactics on the fly as new technologies are opened up and new opportunities become available. Which technologies will end up in your hand is fairly unpredictable so it certainly behooves the canny player to dive in straight away with those short routes and see where the game takes you.

Because the score for some routes may be affected by technologies such as the Boiler Lagging or the Steam Turbines, waiting until the end to compute Routes points doesn't work in this expansion. Now this is a thing of beauty. The UK side depicts the British Isles (and a little bit of France) in a gorgeous watercolour style giving the whole place a mystical, otherworldly feel. Even Nessie gets a cheeky look-in! Days of Wonder takes its name from the childhood fascination many feel when they first play games. In 2004 it became the youngest publisher ever to win the Spiel des Jahres, just 2 years after it was founded. This game has definitely changed my normal strategy of never drawing Locos from the open cards and hoping to draw them as Mystery Meat. You simply just need to have them at times, and they are such a valuable commodity, that I often find myself drawing them as my only card for the turn…

Volume 5 comes with a big double-sided map with the UK and Pennsylvania on either side. Each side comes with its own set of special rules that can be added too, so you aren’t just getting a different board. Pennsylvania Some players like to add up the points for the routes they claim at game end, rather than each time a route is claimed. If you are likely to forget to immediately score some of the routes you claim, we recommend designating a player as the scorekeeper; have him move all the Score Markers throughout the entire game, or at least prompt the other players to do so when they forget. The route scoring table is on the game board. There are also some cards in the game that show you how many points you score for each route length. These should be recorded by moving your scoring marker each time you claim a route. Draw Destination Cards

Technology Cards

You may play this card to claim a route that was already claimed by another player. When playing this card, you must still play the correct number of cards to claim the route. It’s a different point boost that doesn’t destroy the simplicity of the original game but still adds a bit more complexity. United Kingdom
