Add a splash of lemon juice (1-2 teaspoons) to the buttercream and consider piping a line of zesty lemon curd down the centre of each bun – zigzigs look great. Orange butterfly cakes Is it spring break where you are? Because I've got just the thing for you if it is... Blue surf cake. Also known as Ocean cake, Tidal Wave cake, Cloud cake, Beach cake. Maybe it could even be Galaxy cake...! This is basically your recipe when you're looking for a fun cake that's blue-themed and natural (in every sense). Keep with tradition and fill your cakes with a swirl of vanilla buttercream. This is the obvious way to go if making vanilla cakes. Blue Spirulina is another possibility. The colour intensity of the spirulina powder is a bit stronger than the Butterfly Pea. Start with 1 teaspoon added to the flour. If the final colour of the batter does not look perfect, you might add also another ½ -1 tsp.

The Blue Velvet Cake is seriously tasty and pretty! It doesn't really need too much decoration: it looks beautiful with just the frosting on top. But before I proceed to talking about the blue here, let me just say that you can still make this yummy, ice cream-like, dairy-free raw cake any day minus the blue element. The blues in this cake don't affect the flavor, just the aesthetic... blue adds an interesting touch, especially if you're looking to create "surfy" vibes, ocean roars, fluffy clouds, or galaxies galore ;) Using two dessert spoons (one to scoop and the other to push the mix into the tin), fill the paper cases half full with the batter, filling them equally. Add the vanilla and the salt and stir to combine. Add the milk to get the cake mix to a soft dropping consistency, where a heaped spoonful of mixture falls off the spoon after tipping it for few seconds. If you are baking a simple cake and do not want to use butterflies as cake toppers then you can give a try to flying butterflies design on the side. For those who find buttercream just too sweet for their tastes, try filling that cake hole with a swirl of whipped cream. I’d say definitely include a drizzle of jam in this instance. One interesting idea would be to bake a square cake and cut it off in the shape of a butterfly. You can use different colors on the top of the cake and it will represent the colorful wings of the butterfly.

If you do not want to cut the cake into different pieces then you can make the cake in the shape of a butterfly and make the face of a butterfly on the top of the cake. And the two small pieces of the removed cake are placed onto the filling to resemble butterfly wings.

Of course, but remember that cupcakes are about twice the size of fairy cakes and butterfly cakes, so you’ll need to double the recipe to get 12 butterfly cupcakes.
