Description

The original pedal has two input buffers to support the buffered bypass soft switching. One is enough with true-bypass, so I ditched one of the buffers and configured the remaining one to have the correct freq response and input impedance. Its tough and rugged metal chassis can be relied on so you can be confident when taking this pedal on the road with you. The saturation may drop as you move up the hearing frequencies but will then stay uniform in most cases.

I moved the protection diodes from the input of the 2nd stage to the input of the 1st stage. Their purpose is to keep the Q2-Q3 diff pair from going haywire if they're driven too hard. Saved one capacitor (C32, above). Reliability really can be affordable to all.Boss are so suretheir compact pedals last the test of time, they cover them with a full five year warranty. Key Features I feel that for this pedal - the use of clear knobs is an inspired choice. I will probably be looking to snag a Twin Drive BD-2 next, then Twin Drive DS-1, and finally a Twin Drive MT-2 - sort of as a treat every few months or so. Several guitar overdrives are available in the market. However, all of them do not work for all the models. Different overdrives come with different features and so are compatible with a particular number of guitars. These figures will vary depending on the actual conditions of use. Accessories Leaflet ("USING THE UNIT SAFELY,""IMPORTANT NOTES," and "Information")With the active TREBLE control, I didn't need the passive TONE control any more, so that got tossed overboard. I've tried dozens of other pedals while the OD-3 was just floating out there. I assumed there was nothing special about it, and figured it was just an SD-1 with a new model number and darker color yellow. The Boss overdrives have been around for a long time. Two popular models, the Boss OD 3 and Boss SD 1, have all the necessary features that are needed in a modern overdrive.

As described by Analogman, the pedal wizard, the asymmetrical clipping gives out a pure, richer sound. The straightforward, high-quality drive, along with the various level and tone controls, make it an excellent model. The Boss OD-3 also comes with a five-year warranty. One other comment re: the difference between the OD-3 & the BD-2. I consider the BD-2 to be more of a clean boost because it only sounds good (to me) when it's running clean. The OD-3 is definitely an overdive in my book because it sounds good running dirty. There’s so many cool Modded Boss pedals out there - maybe it’s time for a Boss Custom Shop - to roll out these sorts of more specialist pedals. J112 has a high Vp, so I can bias it from ground in stead of Vref. I used that for the input buffer (Q1). For the born again tone junkie, this might get you out of some of the many online support groups in your chase for a dynamic, natural sounding overdrive that has more transparency than it does color. The tone achievable with the three simple knobs, sans diode switches or vintage/modern modes is fantastic and rivals many of the independent offerings we have all spent hard earned money on for that Holy Grail end all pedal, only to still be left asking…"did I get a lemon?" Therefore, you will notice that most overdrives produce a ‘pushed’ sound that is well in tune, clean, and capable of being stretched to the crunch.
