Description

This collection of poetry from Donna Ashworth will stay with me for many years to come. It is moving, kind, empathetic and so insightful; there are pieces here for almost every eventuality and type of grief. It is soothing, human and compassionate, and yet somehow aids that progression through the darker days of grief. Many thanks to Netgalley, Bonnier UK Audio, and the author, for the ALC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Watch your words they can break down walls and build bridges but they can just as easily break a beautiful spirit.” GREAT GRIEF is another that I definitely agree with the sentiment & words of 'that great grief is born only of great love' A sentiment recently mentioned in connection to the death of Queen Elizabeth that echoed her words of 'Grief is the price you pay for love' which she said after the death of her own husband. I didn't think anything could beat Donna Ashworths 'Love' poetry collection but boy was I wrong! This honestly had my in tears the whole time! 😭

I feel duty-bound to report that this book of poetry is self-published. I know this because I read a few poems and thought, wow—what press would publish this? Donna's beautiful words have a way of climbing inside your very soul, her writing is wise, comforting and she has a wonderful way of making this sometimes lonely journey through midlife much less bewildering!" Written from the point of view of the person being laid to rest.Whether you have a mother or not, the need will always be there. Even if you never had one, even if you don’t have any experience of that maternal love, there is a hole inside of you that perhaps, you didn’t even know you had. A woman needs her mum, this much is true. So There was only one poem I felt negativity towards and it was DEATH IS A THIEF I really strongly disliked the reference to death being like a 'cancer' personally I would substitute 'cancer' with 'monster' Donna's words are just so wonderful. I find myself reaching for a Donna book most days and I dip in and out.

You are snaking a shimmering pathway full of love and joy sincerity and kindness companionship and loyalty and you-ness all over the place and you don’t even see it.” To My No Fuss Friend Thank you for understanding that life is faster than I am… That, in my mind’s eye, we would hang out so much more often. Thank you, for not passive-aggressively berating me, each time I fail to return a text or answer a call…and for always allowing me to just divepeople who like themselves as they are don’t judge they don’t look for flaws neither do they filter your words for signs of weakness they have learned to stop all that they accept themselves naturally and so they accept you too just as you are” It’s as if she’s got a hotline to your head. She gets inside your mind, rummages round all those piles of messy-feely thoughts, even the ones in the darkest corners, then heads for your heart.
